We're nearly there! We're at number 4.... let's see if you agree with our picks this time as we get down to our favourites of favourites!

Ardeospina's #4:

"On The Head of a Pin"

Why: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaangst.  Delicious, delicious angst.  Did I mention angst with a side order of angst?  Because this episode delivers that in spades.  If you're looking for a feel-good episode, this is definitely not it.  But I looooove me some angst, so this episode is right in my wheelhouse.

This episode grips the viewer tight right from the opening and doesn't let go until the credits roll.  It has a real in media res feel, the opening, with Castiel walking through the aftermath of a battle to find his fallen sister.  This is the first sight of the now-familiar wing singe, and man, it is spectacular.  The slow pan up from the dead angel as the helicopter spotlights pan over her wings is one amazing image.

And things just get more intense from there.  When Uriel and Castiel are waiting in the motel room to whisk Dean away, you just know it's not gonna be good.  And having Dean torture Alastair is sooooooo not good.  That whole scene is so well-acted by both Jensen and Christopher Heyerdahl (Alastair) wasn't it?  They really nailed it, and made us feel the horrible connection the two had in Hell.  Speaking of good acting, this was a standout episode for Robert Wisdom, too, as Uriel.  He was very persuasive, and it's easy to see why so many angels sided with him.

But the badesst basass of them all this episode was Sam.  Exorcising Alastair?  Damn, he had some serious mojo.  Unfortunately, the reason he had the mojo was demon blood, which didn't turn out very well for Sam in the end at all.  Still, it was pretty intense to see it happen.  And protective Sam in the hospital was pretty cute.

This episode was also a big one for Castiel, too.  We'd seen him have doubts, and we'd seen him help the Winchesters before, but I think this was the episode that cemented the idea in his mind that he was going to side with the Wiinchesters no matter what the cost.  Until he got dragged back to heaven for a little re-education, that is.  Still, once that gong has been rung, you can't unring it.

And how about the huge reveal that Dean broke the first seal?  That was so unexpected!

Favorite Quote:  I've got two.  The first:

Alastair: Something's caught in my throat.  I think it's my throat.  (HA HA HA HA)

Dean: You guys don't walk enough. You're gonna get flabby. You know, I'm starting to think Junkless has a better sense of humor than you do.
Castiel: Uriel's the funniest angel in the garrison. Ask anyone.

Favorite Scene:  It has to be the one at the end between Dean and Castiel in the hospital.  They're both so open with each other, especially Dean.  He's extremely vulnerable in this scene, but Castiel is so careful with him.  It shows just how far the two of them had come as friends that Dean is willing to open up like that and admit that he couldn't handle the strain of the angels' expectations.  Meep.  Poor Dean.

Awesome choices.
There´s nothing to be said about those.
All three of them are just brilliant.
Though you named my own personal number one and two (On the head of a Pin and Lazarus Rising) on four... I can live with that.

When you are that high up... it doesn´t really matter anymore, if you think, they are brilliant, or just the most brilliantest ever :-*

On the Head of a Pin always gets a pass.
Because Christopher Heyerdahl, because of THAT scene.
It might not be politically correct to name a torture scene your third favorite scene on Supernatural ever, but... CHRIST!
It was absolutely perfect, spot on acting.
And watching Alistair completely deconstruct Dean, while being tortured by him, was brilliantly painful and told us all, we needed to know about Dean´s time in Hell.

Btw, the other two scenes are: Castiel´s Entrance in Lazarus Rising and Bobby seeing Dean again in Lazarus Rising. Because: totally badass and absolutely funny, while heartbreakingly emotional

This is like last minute at the Oscars! I can't wait to find out what your first choices are.
"Bon Jovi rocks, on occasion."
I love that you chose that line, I use that one all the time, because I don't love Bon Jovi, but hey, sometimes they actually rock pretty good.

Love all these episodes, and No Rest for the Wicked is also on my top 15. Such great write ups by all of you. And OMG Sweetondean - I never saw that deleted scene! That is hysterical! Is that on the DVD?

Hi Grace, yes it's a deleted scene. If you don't have it, visit my YouTube channel (it's sweetondean) because I have it on there. :-)

Thanks very much Sweetondean. Watched it from your page. Classic Dean. And I love Castiel's stare when Dean said that! Can't imagine Misha did not struggle with that.

You guys are killing me!!! These are all my number ones time and again.

And Alice, I too had to suffer through the hellatus for the first time after Dean went to hell. Never had I wanted summer to pass so quickly! Never thought Dean would actually go to hell. It just about killed me, thinking of that all the friggin' summer!

And Lazarus Rising is right up there too. Both Kripke and Kim masterpieces! Every time I rewatch them I think about the long long summer when I kept feeling "Dean Dean Dean! sob sob!" and how nice it is to be able to pop the next dvd in immediately for instant relief. :P

On the Head of a Pin is a masterpiece of its own. Writing and acting by all exceptional. Heart ripping sadness, only relieved by the next episode. My heart was in my gut when that episode finished with "I'm not the man either of our fathers wanted me to be!" Baaaaawwwwlllll !!! :sigh:

First things first, I must go watch that deleted scene...

...and I'm back. Awesome. Thanks for that! Wow, you guys have some powerful episodes at #4. On one hand, I'm kicking myself that "On the Head of a Pin" isn't in my top 15! It's a crime, because it's one of my favorites, for all the reasons you give. But then I look at my list and there's not any one I'm willing to take off, even if I could... so I guess 15 just isn't enough for ALL my favorites.

At #4 on my list is "Weekend at Bobby's". Loved seeing the world from Bobby's perspective, and all the work he puts into research and helping out other hunters. Plus I've always wondered what happens if a monster gets chopped into pieces without the proper formalities. Enter woodchipper! Also, how great were the back and forth impressions between Bobby and Crowley? Dr. Phil... heh.

You nailed it again! The best Winchester hug of all times. When Cas shows his wings to Dean was amazing! Lets not forget the intro of Ruby 2.0, which is my fav Ruby.
