Somewhere back in season three, I actually did a "Best" and "Worst" list for Supernatural episodes. I'll tell ya, it was way easier in season three! In trying to revisit that list now with more the double the number of episodes, I'm still trying to pull together a ten best (even 15 is tough), but somehow I had no problem with the ten worst. So I present, the "Ten Worst Episodes of Supernatural." You'll find this list is very different than the first list I did (which was only five), even if a few on that list made this one. Yes, count on "Bugs" being here. But is it still #1?
Naturally, I have an (dis)honorable mention. I just had to sneak that extra one on there. So yes, this one goes to eleven (hee, I love that line!). Here goes...
Dishonorable Mention: All Dogs Go To Heaven
I struggle with this episode actually. It always makes everyone else’s “worst” list. I easily rank it as one of the worst of season six. However, I saw some redeeming qualities in this episode. I actually liked the skinwalker MOTW story. I loved the dog that played Lucky. Man, that animal could act.
However, that’s the problem with this episode, that dog out acted everyone, especially Jared. By this point, I could not stomach soulless Sam any longer. The writing for soulless Sam was all over the map at this point, but when they decided that this week we would get to know jerkish, arrogant, completely uncaring about anyone including his brother Sam, I couldn’t take it anymore. It was not a form of Sam that was interesting to watch. No, it was a form of Sam that made me for the first time ever resist to urge to change the freaking channel during a Supernatural episode.
Dean was fine, but in “go with the flow” mode. If it wasn’t for sniper Dean, I’m not sure I’d remember what he did in this episode either. He was wallpaper. The directing though, I do have praise for that. Phil Sgriccia had some masterful moments, especially the under the bridge shots as Sam and Dean prepped their weapons at the trunk of the Impala. Gorgeous and iconic. So, because of that, this episode earns only a Dishonorable Mention.
