Editor's Note: I first saw Cat Dean's Twitter thread of epic, emotional moments between Sam and Dean Winchester in July of 2018. The narration was gut wrenching, telling the story of big brother Dean's love for Sam, and the emotional attachment we all have for Supernatural. The other half of the story is, of course, Sam's love for Dean. At my request, Cat Dean added Sam's thoughts during those absolutely-break-your-heart hugs to her story. The result was a WFB feature that was published in September, 2018, as "Broments: Supernatural's Epic Story Told in Dean's Hugs." Now, a year later, here is Part 2: the History of Sam's Love for Dean, and Dean's responses to that love - a gripping tale of a brotherly bond so strong, it survives even death.

Sam and Dean rarely hug, so every time is a momentous, sometimes incredibly painful, occasion...

You’re here.

Everything is going dark.

But that doesn’t matter.

You’re here.

No, no, no. 

I’ve got you. 

You’re going to be okay. 

You have to be okay. 

I’m here. I’ve got you.  

Something is wrong. 

I remember everything going dark

Then I wake up in pain, alone.

And now you’re hugging me,

Tightly, painfully

As if your life depended on it. 

You’re alive. 

It’s worth it. 

I thought I’d failed you, too. 

Just like Dad. 

But you’re alive.  

And I can hug you to me. 

You were gone. 

I lost you over and over,

Daily, for days.

Then I thought I lost you forever,

And in doing so, I lost part of myself too. 

But you’re here now. 

The relief I feel. 

And I promise,

I’m not going to lose you again. 

You’re back. 

You’re really here.

No matter what I tried, 

I couldn’t save you. 

But now,

Like magic, 

You’re in front of me. 

I don’t understand it. 

But for some reason. 

Things are more right, 

When you’re near. 

And things haven’t been right, 

Since I’ve been back

The last thing I remember, 

Is your face, 

Broken by my own hands, 

I know I told you to promise, 

Not to get me out, 

But I’m just so happy to see you, 

To be able to hug you again. 

You just disappeared

I didn’t know what to do,

So I just stopped.

And now, you’re here.

I don’t know how,

But you are.

I crawled through Purgatory, 

To get back to you. 

And now we’re together again. 

Just how it’s supposed to be. 

I now know what you went through. 

In that year. 

I now know that Benny, 

Was better than I feared. 

And everything hurts, 

But I’m grateful for this. 

I was expecting to argue 

To defend my actions. 

Instead I get this. 

This hug. 

I’m glad I could save you. 

I promise I won’t let you down. 

I’m so afraid for you. 

Afraid what will happen,

But, even hurting, 

You were able to save me.

All this pain,

All this guilt,

Just let it go?

I’ll try. 

For you,

I will. 

No,

No, no, no

You can’t leave. 

Not now,

I haven’t been able to tell you. 

Tell you why . . .

And now I’m sure. .  

What I said was a lie. 

You’ll be okay. 

I know that was bad.

But you’ll be okay. 

You’re you. 

And I’ve got you. 

Why is it always us?

Why do we always have to,

Be the ones to make the ultimate sacrifice,

I did everything just to save you,

Only to lose you like this?

It’s not fair. 

I’ll make you proud 

You’ve taught me so well.

I’ll do this,

But you be careful, too. 

While be both do what we have to do. 

 I felt so guilty.

 But with one hug,

 You absolve me.

 You always put me first.

And that means everything.

You died.

And I could do nothing.

So I don’t care how you’re back

Just that you are. 

 

 

Something is up,

Not that I mind,

But you never do that.

Not unless there is something wrong.

Dreadfully wrong.

If things go according to plan,

I’ll never see you again.

And though it may be risky,

And tip my hand,

I have to hug you,

Just one last time.

I have to.

You can’t leave me.

I can’t lose you.

I can’t let go.

Fight for us.

Believe in us.

Please, I’m begging you.

Stay. 

I always knew,

It would be you.

You were the only one that could stop me.

I can’t leave you like this.

So I’ll keeping fighting,

The archangel in my head.

I’ll take this pain,

And keep going,

For as long as I can.

For you.
